As December sneaks up on us, we are diving into our year-end reflections (and annual reports – yes, we have to prepare more than one!). Looking back, we’re incredibly proud of all that we’ve accomplished in 2024, and we’re already setting our sights on new goals for 2025 with our upcoming strategic plan.

Are sloths drinking more water than before? Is the smoke from cars affecting the delicate micro-ecosystems of green algae and moths that sloths have in their fur? Are sloths affected by artificial lights?

The Urban Sloth Project is our latest scientific research project concerning sloth ecology, studying how habitat urbanization is impacting sloth health and behavior. For the next five years, we’ll be monitoring  32 wild sloths: 16 three-fingered and 16 two-fingered sloths.
