Tales from the Jungle: February, Sloth Love Month
February is the month for love. And here at SloCo, we have so many things that we love (besides sloths), including, but not limited to:
Tales from the Jungle: January & February 2022
December is usually a month where SloCo runs lean and much of our international team travels home to see family for the holidays, working from computers in the UK, Argentina, Germany, and the United States and sending texts across time zones.
Tales from the Jungle: December updates!
Happy December everyone! Wait, how is it December already? The final months of the year sneak up on us here in the South Caribbean. We don’t have the seasonal markers that signal this time of year in temperate climes—there are no autumn leaves, first frosts, or snowfall. We do get extra tourists, choppy seas, and sometimes plagues of various bugs, but that’s not really the same thing.
Tales From the Jungle: Slothober
What a wild month we’ve had! We got it through Slothtober with flying colors and even hosted the first-ever International Sloth Festival— if you didn’t manage to join us in person or online, check out our social media for details, pictures, and some great art.
Tales from the Jungle: July 2021
July is always an eventful month for Team Sloth, but we weren’t prepared for what was lurking around the corner this year! Things got off to a good start as we celebrated an important symbolic achievement and a huge milestone for one of our projects.
Tales from the Jungle: June 2021
June has been an emotional rollercoaster for Team Sloth. We sadly witnessed some of the most cruel, greedy, and reckless sides of humanity, but we also managed to achieve some fantastic breakthroughs for sloth conservation.
Tales from the Jungle: May Update!
Team Sloth have been the opposite of slothful this month – we have been chasing invisible sloths through the jungle, carrying out emergency surgeries, castrating dogs and we were shamefully outsmarted by a herd of hungry goats. Read on below to learn about our biggest successes and failures this month!
Tales from the Jungle: April 2021
I need to start by sharing with you some sad news. If you follow our updates then you might remember a sloth called Cacao – he was one of the new additions to our Urban Sloth Project in January and, as his name suggests, he loved to feast on cacao pods in a local garden in the South Caribbean.
Tales from the Jungle: March 2021
While we talk a lot about transparency as a non-profit organization, we tend to only celebrate the great things that we do. But of course – mistakes happen! We believe that there is more value in sharing these failures rather than simply sweeping them under the rug, and so this month we are excited to introduce you to our first-ever ‘what went wrong‘ feature (scroll down to see Team Sloth’s biggest fails this month!).
Tales From the Jungle: February 2021
New Year, New Goals… New Sloths! After waving goodbye to 2020, we have jumped into 2021 with renewed energy and vigor to propel us forward in our mission. While the sloths we work with may move slowly, our team in Costa Rica certainly do not.
Tales from the Jungle: News and Updates!
I can’t believe it is already the end of August! The dwindling days of summer and the time when families would normally start to mentally prepare for going back to school. As we are all aware, however, 2020 has been far from normal! (Updates)
July on our Social Media
To start off #plasticfreejuly, we will be giving away a free tote bag with every physical sloth adoption package! Adopt a sloth this month to revive your own beautiful sloth tote bag 💚
Tales from the jungle: June News!
June News! While many countries across the world are beginning to ease restrictions, COVID-19 cases in Costa Rica are now spiking (along with an unfortunate outbreak of dengue fever) and so team sloth are regressing back into lock-down mode. Despite this, however, our work to protect sloths does not stop! In fact, we are busier than ever!
Getting to know Team Sloth: Meet Patricio (a.k.a. Pato)!
This month we would like to introduce you to Patricio Silfeni; chief agronomist and manager of the Connected Gardens project.
June on our Social Media
In this picture you can see our Connected Gardens Project manager, Patricio, riding his bike to deliver some tree saplings. Unless is strictly necessary, whether it´s because the place to plant is too far, or requires a big quantity of trees, We always choose our bikes as our principal way of transportation.
MAY on our Social Media
May Day, May Day! Today is also known as International Workers’ Day, and we want to say THANK YOU to the essential workers who are sacrificing so much to save so many
Tales from the Jungle: May
Somehow we are almost half-way through 2020 – a year that is turning out to be remarkable for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully I will be sharing with you some happy sloth news and I am relieved to report that Team Sloth are all “hanging in there”.
April on our Social Media
Today is World Art Day and we want YOU to get creative! Upload photos of your sloth art in the comments and we will re-post our favorites in our social media stories! This fun painting was done by #TeamSloth‘s creative guru in Costa Rica Cecilia Golondrina.
Tales from the Jungle: April
At times like these, it can be easy to get wrapped up in the fear and uncertainty of everything. One of the best ways to combat negative feelings is to practice gratitude – which is why I want to share with you some of our positive “tales from the jungle”!
