We’re wrapping up September with more than just the arrival of Slothtober. This month has been full of activity, including the launch of our fundraiser to begin construction on the future Sloth HQ, a long-anticipated expedition across the country, and important workshops to strengthen the foundation of our conservation work. But first, we have an invitation for you.

Let’s start with the good news – we’ve officially survived the rainy season here on the Caribbean coast! It’s been a wild one, with endless storms, flooded trails, and plenty of wet socks, but we clung on (and so did the sloths). Now, let’s dive into what Team Sloth has been up to this month in our never-ending mission to make the world a safer place for sloths.

Month number 7 is officially in the books, and what a ride it’s been. Between new research, new bridges, multiple flat tires (sigh), and a life-changing auction, July was anything but slow. We’ve had big wins, small setbacks, and some long-awaited dreams finally starting to take shape.

We have somehow reached the halfway point of 2025. The world beyond the rainforest feels loud, fast, and overwhelming these days – but here, under the canopy, the sloths are still sleeping quietly, tucked into the treetops.

Welcome to the fifth Tales from the Jungle of the year – and this one’s packed. Some of it is good news. Some of it… let’s just say it builds character.

It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into the fifth month of the year—while sloths may be slow, time certainly isn’t!

It’s been one of the rainiest months of the year so far, but soggy boots and muddy field kits didn’t slow us down one bit.

February flew by in a blur of new sloths, record-breaking census days, and even a little Italian TV fame! But before we dive headfirst into March, let’s take a moment to look back at all the jungle excitement.

January always feels like the longest month, and this one was no exception – five whole weeks!

As December sneaks up on us, we are diving into our year-end reflections (and annual reports – yes, we have to prepare more than one!). Looking back, we’re incredibly proud of all that we’ve accomplished in 2024, and we’re already setting our sights on new goals for 2025 with our upcoming strategic plan.

October (Slothtober!) is one of our busiest (and favorite!) months of the year—not only because it’s an entire month dedicated to celebrating all things sloth, including International Sloth Day on the 20th, but also because it provides us with the perfect opportunity to amplify our mission and engage more people than ever in the urgency and importance of sloth conservation, habitat preservation, and reforestation!

Slothtober is just around the corner, and we’re really excited to kick off our favorite month of the year! But September was indeed another busy month.

August has been a really hectic month here in the South Caribbean, and as typical of the rainy season, we had several storms throughout the month that made us postpone or cancel our plans many times.

Hello, dear Sloth Community! The peak of summer and the rainy season has brought us big thunderstorms, flooding, and the high season for tourism in Costa Rica. Despite these challenges, we have continued with our usual work of planting trees and installing canopy bridges, spaying and neutering rescued dogs, and monitoring our sloths for the Urban Sloth Project.

Sloths are slow and time is fast, and as we said goodbye to the sixth month of the year, we have amazing updates! This month, we welcomed a new SloCo team member: Deily Mora Aguilar, who will be our new Connected Gardens and Sloth Crossings manager.

Tortuguero is a small village with no streets or cars, nestled between the ocean and a river. It’s known for its sea turtle nesting season, as well as its mangroves, rivers, and canals.

Sloths in the wild learn everything from their mother: where to sleep, what to eat, and even when it’s time to climb down the tree to defecate.

The last days of March are upon us, bringing the Easter Weekend, or ‘Semana Santa’ as we call it here. This week, our little corner of Costa Rica is bustling.
