Help Us Build Our Permanent Home.

We began with just one person, our founder Dr. Rebecca Cliffe, studying sloths alone in the rainforest. Slowly, she was joined by Cecilia and Patricio - a tiny team of three, all working voluntarily. We held meetings crowded around a kitchen table, dreaming big about sloth conservation and scribbling plans on scraps of paper.

Today, Rebecca, Cecilia, and Patricio are part of a full-time team of 12, supported by thousands of people worldwide. Together, we have planted 12,000 trees, built 370 Sloth Crossing canopy bridges and reconnected 8000 hectares of fragmented rainforest.

Tax-deductible donations (US): If you are a US citizen or company and would like to give in the most tax-effective way, then you can do so here. We have a Friends Fund with CAF America—all donations made through this fund will be transferred to us and are fully tax-deductible in the US.

To keep growing, we need roots.

Since the beginning, we have operated out of rented spaces, juggling rising costs, constant relocations, and makeshift infrastructure. Our forest nursery has moved more times than we care to count. Equipment is spread across borrowed sheds. Our programs must constantly adapt to temporary walls and unreliable facilities. This instability is slowing us down and limiting the impact we can have for sloths.

Thanks to the generosity of some of our most loyal supporters, that is finally changing. We have secured 80% of the funds needed to build our first-ever permanent headquarters in Costa Rica - complete with a forest nursery, sloth research lab, and education center.

Now, we are just $30,000 away from completing it - and the timing couldn’t be more meaningful.

In January 2027, The Sloth Conservation Foundation turns 10 years old. A whole decade of protecting sloths! Our biggest wish is to celebrate that milestone by moving into our very first permanent headquarters: a place built for sloths, science, and community for the next ten years and beyond. With your help, we can open the doors in time for our 10th birthday. This new chapter will allow us to expand our research, strengthen our community programs, and give even more wild sloths a safe future in the forests they call home.Thank you for being part of this journey.
