Mom & Baby In Full Sloth Mode | May 2025

Deborah stayed true to form over the past few months -taking things nice and slow, with baby Mel still clinging tightly to her belly. And Mel isn’t so tiny anymore! Despite having a growing baby in tow, Deborah hasn’t changed her routine one bit.

Most of the time when we track them, we find the pair in full sloth mode: barely moving, maybe adjusting a hand or going in for a lazy scratch. Her collar still needs to be replaced, and the clock is ticking. Once Mel becomes independent, there’s a good chance Deborah will move on from the area she’s called home for nearly three years… and we suspect she might pass her home territory on to Mel.

Baby Mel sleeping so peacefully.

We had a brief scare this month when they both vanished from all of Deborah’s usual trees, but we eventually found them in an old beach almond tree, one that used to be a favorite of Maracuya, an old sloth we tracked in that same area! It’s always fascinating to see the overlap between past and present residents of the Urban Sloth Project.

See you in the next update!
