Tales from the Jungle | October 2025 – A Month to Remember!

#SlothTober is coming to an end, and what a whirlwind it’s been! October is always one of our busiest months, and this year was no exception. Between International Sloth Day celebrations, travels, expos, and visitors (all while running our conservation projects as usual!), the jungle has been buzzing with activity.

Manatee & Sea Turtle Festival, Gandoca

We kicked off Slothtober in the neighboring coastal town of Gandoca, where José and Mariano represented SloCo at the annual Manatee & Sea Turtle Festival. It was a vibrant day filled with music, education, and community conservation. Our team gave away native trees to local families and connected with fellow conservationists in the region.

WCN Expo, San Francisco

Just a few days later, we swapped the jungle for the city when I traveled to San Francisco for the Wildlife Conservation Network WCN Expo, one of the most important events in the world of conservation.

It’s always inspiring to stand alongside organizations and conservationists from across the globe who share the same passion for protecting wildlife. Meeting long-time supporters (and many new ones!) reminded us how truly global the sloth community has become.

Expoviajes CR, San Jose

Meanwhile, Deily and Olivia took on the capital San José, attending Expo Viajes CR 2025, the largest tourism fair in Costa Rica, with over 5,000 daily visitors!

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with local tour operators, raise awareness about responsible sloth encounters and tourism, and build new partnerships that will help expand our work to other parts of the country. Thanks to Festival Perezosos CR for the invitation!

The Projects Continue!

Back home, our Connected Gardens team has been hard at work planting 380 new trees, installing three new Sloth Crossing canopy bridges, and starting a collaboration with Asociación Guardianes del Bosque, a local NGO that engages communities in habitat restoration and environmental education.

By joining forces, we’ll be able to strengthen our reforestation projects throughout the Talamanca region.

A Visit from UNA University

Last week, we hosted a group of 18 students from Universidad Nacional (UNA) studying ‘Local development, environment, and social tourism’. Together with José and the tracking team, the students joined a Sloth Walk to learn about our Urban Sloth Project, responsible wildlife watching, and how ethical tourism can directly support conservation.

A New Home Online…

This month also marked a major milestone for us: the launch of our brand-new website and Donor Portal!

Whether you’re a VIP supporter, an adopter, or a monthly donor, you now have access to an exclusive online dashboard featuring tracking maps, sloth updates, research stories, and more.

You can also manage your donations and payment methods easily, all in one place.

Adopt a Sloth

… and a home in the jungle!

As we celebrate all these achievements, we’re also looking ahead to the future and one of our biggest dreams yet: our very own permanent headquarters in the South Caribbean of Costa Rica!

We’re currently raising $30,000 to bring this dream to life. If you’d like to help us get there, your donation, big or small, will make a lasting difference.

Thank You!

From the bottom of our hearts: thank you for following our journey, for believing in our mission, and for continuing to support the sloths and their forest homes.

Stay tuned for next month’s Tales From the Jungle, there’s always another story (and usually a few muddy boots) waiting just around the corner.

All the best from the jungle,
