Happy #WorldWildlifeDay  the theme this year is “sustaining all life on Earth”. All species are dependent on each other for survival – sloths included! But what important role do sloths play? How do they benefit other species? Well did you know that sloth hair is home to a whole ecosystem that is found nowhere else on earth?

It’s a bright, sunny morning in Costa Rica and we are all quarantined inside our beautiful jungle homes. We are social distancing and practicing solitary sloth-like existences in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

It is an unnerving time. The world watches with baited breath as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread and social distancing becomes the norm. Doubts about the stability of the future and concerns for our loved ones press on our mind making it difficult to think clearly.

Women’s day is celebrated annually on March 8th all over the world. It is a day to celebrate the contributions of women, and we would like to focus on the increasingly important role played by strong women in the world of wildlife conservation!

World Wildlife Day is the most important global annual event dedicated to wildlife. On the 3rd of March in 1973 the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was born.

What exactly is a sloth? Are they related to bears? Monkeys? Marsupials? No! Sloths are actually part of a super ancient (and super strange) family of mammals called the xenarthrans (pronounced zen-ar-thrans).

Many people are drawn to Costa Rica for its “Pura Vida” lifestyle (literally translating as ‘Pure Life’); a motto that reminds people to stop and enjoy the richness of life, to take the time to sit down and savor a cup of coffee over a late-afternoon conversation.
